Ok so I, like so many other mamas value healthy and nutritious meals…but i also value time! Mornings are crazy enough, battling kids to brush their teeth & comb their hair. Breakfast doesn’t have to add to morning chaos. Here are 5 meals my kids love. I can either make them ahead of time or make them quickly. I hope these tips can save you some sanity!
1. Mini Protein Waffles:
I can make a TON of these at once. I wish I could tell you I am the person that does all of the meal prepping on Sunday…but I am not. But I make a BUNCH of these when I do make them. You can store them in freezer bags and take them out when you are ready for them!
The recipe? Right on the box. I am not a fan of having to save a bunch of recipes and look back and fourth between my apps and my meal. It’s easy. The part that makes these awesome is the mini maker you can get HERE. It makes a bunch at once so you can prep quicker.
My favorite protein mix HERE
& THE BEST waffle mixer HERE
2. Instant Protein Oatmeal
Again, a recipe on the box! There is no bigger win for me. Now how to get oatmeal to taste good enough for my kids to eat it? Replacing water with your preferred milk. Also butter to taste! The kids need the fats for brain function and if you have an underweight kid like I do, butter is your friend!!
We love Kodiak Cubs and we LOVE s’mores flavor you can get that HERE.
Also we love these microwave safe bowls HERE
3. Smoothie Bowls
There are a million recipes on the internet for smoothie bowls so I will not bore you with a crazy one. Here’s what I do:
For my two kids I throw all these ingredients t’s in a blender (this one is my faves)
- 2 Bananas
- 1 Cup of either raspberries or strawberries
- 4 dates
- Either almond or peanut butter (to taste)
- No sugar added sugar free jam (to taste)
- 1 tablespoon chia seed
- 1/2 cup of your milk preferences
- Top with banana and berries.
And HERE are the best freezer bowls with lids that actually have a section for dry items. You can also use them for whatever you don’t want getting soggy
4. Egg Bites
Ok so again with the bulk cooking! I don’t prep this on a regular basis but when I make them I make too many! So good. There are so many recipes on the internet I will not be adding to that list. But a quick run down… make scrambled eggs, add cheese spinach and bacon (cooked), cook it with one of these egg bite makers HERE for smaller batches, and HERE for larger batches and versatility. Also this one makes breakfast sandwiches…so bonus!
Also I love THIS GUY for the instant pot or air fryer!
But I cannot stress enough how convenient it is to buy them at Costco. It’s my favorite way to feed these to my kids..
5. Cereal
I know what you are thinking… you didn’t have to seek the internet to find out that cereal is a easy breakfast for kids. But here me out! There is nothing in this world that is more simple than pulling out a box and putting it into a bowl. Easy. And sometimes overlooked because it’s been deemed “sugar-filled” and “unhealthy” but I have some options and I disagree. There are many better choices out there now & these are some of my faves:
- Magic spoon– it’s a keto cereal which means LOW sugar. Also it’s bomb. Like really freaking good and my kids love it.
- Annie’s– we do lots of Annie’s at our house. Now I know the real healthy people will tell me how awful Annie’s is. But the truth is it is better than most of what’s out there. No dyes, lower sugar. I really can’t ask for more.
- Cascadian Farms-love this one too! It’s gluten free for those that stay away from gluten. But over all my check points are not a lot of added “gunk” and I really try my best or stay low sugar and dye free. It checks my boxes and the kids love.
Also my favorite cereal bowls (the ones with the straws for the milk) is a MUST have. You can grab them right HERE
Lastly, just wanted to add a few other favorites that we can’t to breakfast without:
Last but certainly not least my WEEKLY MENU. cannot live with out it. I only have to think about what I am eating once a week. As a work from home mama there is nothing I appreciate more than something being taken off my plate. Oh & it also comes with a grocery list. I laminate mine and use a dry erase marker but you can print and use pen too!
I know these aren’t revolutionary ideas but sometimes we need a reminder that it’s ok to be convenient and healthy is relative. Also I’m the type of mom that goes to google easy meals and there are a million recipes when I was actually asking for where to buy something premade and healthy. Even if we give the pressure of perfection up for a week imagine how much happier we will be? Let me know if you give it a try!
